We have fond memories of holidays and day trips to Clacton over the years, from Butlins, to Atlas Park and every kid's idea of a great day out - Magic City in it's 1980s heyday!
Atlas Park
Butlins Clacton closed in 1983. It was reopened in 1984 as Atlas Park by a team of previous managers. Closing in 1985, the land was sold for housing.

Gaiety Theatre
The Gaiety Theatre was a part of Butlins Clacton from at least 1958 (if not earlier), it was a very distinctive building with soldiers on the front.

Merlin's Magic Show
Local entertainer Len Blease hosted Merlin’s Magic Show - showcasing the talents of the young magicians he mentored.

Pier Dolphin Show
Originally an over-the-sea swimming pool (opened in 1932). In 1971 the pool was closed and turned in a dolphinarium until it's closure in 1985.

Most Butlins' had a tiki themed Beachcomber Bar. Clacton had the South Seas Lounge - a curious mix of tiki and native indian styling.

Magic City's famous mascot - Bazz Rabbit was the face of Magic City in the 80s and 90s, and still appears in some form today.

Magic City - Finghal's Cave
Essentially a mini zip wire for kids in a cave - this was one of our favourites. There was so much to do there and we always left this one until last.
